Most microwave ovens will generate arcs and sparks inside their cavity if they are run with an insufficient load, or no load whatsoever. The high-frequency content from these arcs is being coupled through the HV transformer section of your microwave onto the AC line, where the AFCI can then see it and proceed to freak out, thinking the arcing is actually an AC mains arc, not a microwave cavity arc.
For automatic standby power, there are a few options - new construction allows for the option of a Generator Ready panel that allows the generator to be installed and purchased at a later time without costly retrofit transfer switch installations. These panels are specific to certain brands of generators, so please call if you have questions.
All breakers in your panel should be tripped and reset annually, and GFCI and/or AFCI breakers should have the test button pushed also. Keep all electrical devices (including phone, data and cable) free and clear of dust, dirt and other debris. All GFCI receptacles should be tripped and reset at least twice a year.

We want to thank Reed Electrical for expiditing a technician to our home on Tuesday. We had a GFI outlet concern and were on our way out of town and didn't want to be concerned that we might have a fire danger. The technician fixed our issue quickly and was courteous and kind. ******BE AWARE****** We have been in our house for nearly 4 years, Reed Electric installed all electrical wiring in this newly built home. This is my 3rd new home and I have never had as many issues with the breakers as in this house.it appears that when the stove is in use and you go to use something on the outlets, the breaker pops.we have never had the stove breaker pop.just other breakers.we have had outlets not working (they fixed), the breaker box is just being held by a few screws (all the others just fell out the last time they worked on it).the microwave kept popping the breaker, they fixed that. I believe the oven is cross wired somewhere, as this makes other breakers pop.just be aware when hiring.almost 4 years later and still dealing with the breakers.
