Many homes in our area were constructed pre 1950's and have what is called knob and tube wiring. One can determine if you have this type of wiring in your home, by closely looking at basement or attic and looking up at the joist or down under the insulation in the attic rafters. To determine if your home is wired " knob and tube", just look for ceramic knobs or tubes in which the wire gets attached to, or passes through, joists or studs. If the knob and tube wiring is not easily visible, you can usually tell by looking at your electrical outlets and switches.

Nicholas Electric completed a total rewire of our very large 110 year old house, removing all knob and tube connections and bringing all electrical wiring and fixtures up to code. In addition, they upgraded our service to 400 amps. During the multi-month process, co-owner John Bird and his workers were the epitome of what a major contractor should be -responsive, thoughtful, quality work, easy to talk with.
This was a very challenging project. Our old house resists change and the plaster and brick construction makes any work inside walls and ceilings very difficult. Mark, the project lead, did an exemplary job, not only ensuring code compliance and proper function, but also taking great care to minimize plaster damage. His attention to detail makea sure things look right as well as work right.
Mark was always positive, providing alternatives and solutions when confronting with challenging situations. We easily passed our inspections with no issues. We wholeheartedly most strongly recommend Nicholas Electric for any electrical work.

This review is long overdue but Jim, John and all of their guys did a GREAT job when we had a knob and tube issue at our house. They did the initial inspection, talked us through the dangers/options and came in with the lowest estimate. Throughout the process they were very professional and timely. They also did a nice job installing a ceiling fan and some new light fixtures. If we need any more electrical work done, Nicholas Electric are the only guys we will call!

We had an excellent experience with Nicholas Electric. They returned my initial call promptly, and squeezed us in to fix an urgent issue. We had a list of other electrical work which John promptly returned a quote for. He was patient in answering all my questions, and a very reliable communicator. On the day we arranged for the rest of the work, his crew showed up exactly on time, and unprompted put on masks and laid out a ground cloth to keep our floors clean.
They efficiently went about our list, keeping us updated on their progress and again answering our questions thoroughly. Everyone on the crew seemed highly skilled and professional. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

Had Nicholas Electric for a 4 week project to rewire a 140 year old house from knob and tube to bring it up to code. The estimate I received was fair and less than half of any other estimate that I received from other electric companies for the same project. Nothing but good things to say about the work, whenever I would get involved the crew was already 2 steps ahead of me and it was nice not having to get too involved and know everything was being done correctly.

I've been meaning to write this review for a few months now, 10/10. This was a stress free, seamless transaction from start to finish. John the Foreman was very informative, friendly, and answered all our questions thoroughly and professionally (and so we could understand easily in lamens terms), and got us scheduled as quick as possible when our first electrician continuously and then completely blew us off.
He also kept me abreast with scheduling, info about the impending appt., etc., and responded in a timely fashion always. Drew and his crew were the guys that came out. We left the key with them ahead of appt., and they were so on time that they actually even got there earlier than scheduled, first thing in the morning! They were just so professional and efficient.
They even installed some outlets we needed after the main job was completed (that we pre discussed if they had time). My inspector (who seemed very strict) was also very pleased with their work immediately looking at it, he was impressed right away, (which spoke volumes to me given our previous discussions before hiring Nicolas). Even as a lay person, I could tell they did everything tiptop.
This inspector also recommended them to another client he was working with that day across town! Cost wise, they were very comparable to the other few quotes we initially received, I'd say the majority were all within $500 of one another for the main job. In the end, they we're the best value all the way around. I would definitely recommend this company to others.
They're not going to rip you off and they're going to do a great job and not cut any corners, which is what you want when dealing with something as serious as electricity (and dealing with a third party inspector that has to pass you). You can just sit back and know they're doing what you hired them to do, the right way, and have peace of mind that your family will be safe after the job is complete.
I plan to give them another call when we replace some of the fixtures/add fans, and install the dedicated lines for the portable acs/heaters. Definitely give these guys a call, you will be glad you did. I only wish that some of the other contractors I've dealt with in other areas/trades were as professional, trustworthy and efficient as these guys. Thank you Nicholas E. Co., truly!

I have been DIYing my house and a few things got too complicated for myself. So I've been trying to get an electrician out here since September. I reached out to Nicholas Electric Co and got a swift response back from Jim the same day (no other electricians responded back to my inquiries). Jim came out and fixed all of the issues in no time. Today Jim and Wes came to repair a lighting fixture in our bathroom. They were on time, polite and were COVID-19 responsible. They repaired our light fixture in record time (amazing!) and took the extra time to look around at some other lighting issues we were having. Jim and Wes took pictures, measurements and discussed options with us. For their expertise and value, I cannot recommend them enough. A++

We recently had a new breaker panel and exterior outlets installed and a dedicated line run to my shed. To say that I am completely pleased with the work done by Steve and Frank of Nicholas Electric would be an under statement. Everything was handled in a timely and professional manner, from the estimate done by John Bird to the final clean up. It was a pleasure to work with these guys and have them in my home. No one could have taken my request and planned and executed the installation any better than Steve did. They have my highest recommendation.

I had a service line and service panel replacement done on my residence and was pleased to work with Nicholas Electric. They were priced well under the other bids I received, I had a detailed written estimate of the work emailed to me the same day the service manager came out to the property. They were able to get me on the schedule within 2 weeks of signing the estimate. Everyone I worked with was prompt, professional, and friendly.
