So grateful to have found Gibbons Electric. Even though it was a small job for my parents, Steve was responsive, courteous and so helpful. And his crew was AWESOME! Very personable, professional, and didn't overstay their time. We officially have new electricians that I know we can count on for future work/service - Yay! Couldn't be happier!

The electricians from Gibbons installed light fixtures (recessed lights in drop ceiling, track lights on a plaster ceiling and a ceiling bathroom light fixture) and electrical outlets. They were good at communicating and planning, were able to do the job in a timely manner and did a great job overall. The pricing was fair and competitive. I appreciated them working with my budget and suggesting cost-effective ways to do the work prior to providing an estimate. I would recommend them and would hire them again.

I hired Gibbons to replace all of the outlets, switches, replace two ceiling fans and wire my new overhead door opener at my shop. They did a nice clean job. I was thrilled when I received a fuse panel list that I can stick inside the door of the panel in the mail a few weeks later. I will hire them again for my next project. If I could give them zero Stars I would unfortunately I can't so I gave them one. stay away from these people, horrible communication. Horrible management. Horrible customer service. Horrible work ethic. Horrible quality work. it's not worth it. That is a lot other ones out there much better, there is a reason why these reviews are here. Save yourself some money and troubles in a poor job done by these people.

I will give this company zero Stars if I could however I can't so I gave them one. Horrible communication. Horrible work ethic. Horrible finished product. In overall just very unprofessional. There's a lot of other companies out there who are much better than this guys, as a general contractor I came across doing a job for another homeowner who decide to hire this goons. Do yourself a favor stay away from them save yourself a lot of headaches and money.

These guys were responsive, competitively priced and professional. This is the third time I have worked with them and I continue to be satisfied. A few years ago, they installed overhead lights in three rooms of our apartment (previously only had switch operated lamps). We moved to a new condo and they relocated some poorly placed recessed lights. Today, I had them back to install an outlet and a light in our attic crawlspace.
They arrived within 20 minutes of the beginning of the 2 hour window provided. They had all the necessary hardware and were done in under an hour. They cleaned up the work area and tested the new equipment. Very happy to work with them.

They keep asking you for more details about your projects and keep you in an indefinite waiting period while they internally decide which of their electricians will do which part of the work and keep on asking you to contact the other guy in their office to provide even more detail. Neither of the gentlemen I contacted were actually responsive. My projects were the most basic and straightforward electric work, so it could have been an easy buck (most likely a grand) for them.
Instead they kept me on a month long limbo promising to schedule me. I'm a property manager with several units in their immediate service area that will no longe consider their services. I don't care what their reason is for not wanting to do my electric work, but the very least they could have done was to say they can't do the work instead of waisting my time and pissing off my tenants too.

The electricians who come to your home and do the work are great. But getting through to the estimator is a pain. Plus he paid more attention to his phone than to our house during the walk-through. Is it any wonder we had to go through several rounds of estimates to get clarity on what we wanted? All for him finally to say what we wanted was not to code and they wouldn't do it.
All of a sudden it's not to code? AARRGGHH! If you can specify a simple task, like "fix the doorbell" call Gibbons, but for complicated stuff that needs estimating, go elsewhere.

Gibbons Electric completed a major job at my dental office. Most of my dental equipment needed new wiring and circuits, and the job was promising to be quite invasive. I was amazed that despite telling the guys that the floors and walls would be redone after they leave, the crew had covered every inch of the areas that could and could not get dirty from their work.
They even put shoe covers because it just rained outside. No instrument was put anywhere unless they placed a protective mat underneath. I have never seen a contractor clean up so vigilantly after themselves. I haven't commented on the electrical work itself, it was top notch. You will be making a mistake if you are not hiring Gibbons Electric for your next electrical job, big or small.

We have purchased a new chandelier and want to install in our dining room. We had no idea on the exact work it would involve so we decided to hire an electrician to come and help us out. I called Gibbons Electric to schedule an appointment, they are pretty full in terms of booking (most of good ones are right :) ) After my phone conversation, they have found a best time to come over and perform the job and they gave me a call on the day of service before they come over to make sure someone is available. Mike and his apprentice showed up on time, asked us for more details on how we want to implement the installation job.
They were patient and provide good suggestions to help us on making a decision with the work. They have done the job gently and make sure does not break any of other furniture in the room, they also did a good job on cleaning to make sure not leaving us any trash. Overall, my experience with Gibbons Electric was great and I would definitely hire them again for future electric works!

I was a repeat customer of Gibbons and would have given them 5 stars but had a bad experience that you should know. First, it was hard to schedule, since the person who answers the phone at Gibbons can't make appointments. I had to contact Stephen directly and it's phone tag and he doesn't return calls. Finally, I catch him in the office. Now, we're scheduling work which Stephen had previously estimated but was delayed since last season. We're looking at a month out at least--they're real busy--and he needs to come to do the estimate again. (Did he forget to write down the last estimate or did he lose it?
I didn't ask, but what was the point of the last estimate?). We agree on 8-9 AM to do this, so I'm going to be late to work. No sign of him at 8:45 so I call his mobile--he's on his way. He shows up at 8:55. "How ya doing?" Me: "Not so good, it's so late that we don't have time now." Steven: "Fine, then I won't work for you. Good-bye." And off he goes. This is how you treat a repeat customer? I feel like I was given the proverbial finger. Clearly he doesn't need my business. Par for the course? You decide.

I had a very good experience with this company. I had to have my electrical system upgraded, which was intimidating and expensive, but they made the process very transparent and efficient. I had to wait a couple months but when the day came, I was impressed by how professional they were. One of the technicians was pretty grumpy, but hey, I didn't hire them to be my friends.
One note of advice, if you are emailing about an estimate or scheduling issue and you don't hear back within a day, call to follow up. I had a couple emails fall through the cracks but it was easy to deal with via phone. One other note, if they say they are showing up at 7:15am, you didn't mis-hear them, make sure you drag your butt out of bed because they will be there at 7:15am.

My first call was to Gibbon's when we needed a light wired into our pantry and added a light in the cellar. We are repeat customers, and the level of service, knowledge and skill Mike and Sammy provide is why we are repeat customers. The pantry light install was complex, and the guys knocked it out like it was a walk on the beach. Highly recommended, we will call again and refer to a friend.

These guys are consummate professionals and epitomize customer service. My wife and I were expecting our first child and needed to install a ceiling fan to regulate the airflow in the nursery better. Our fan arrived in June, The Gibbons crew came out right away and did a thorough review of our home taking numerous measurements to accuracy until we discovered the fan was broken.
Unfortunately the replacement fan was broken as well, yet two fans and two months later, Gibbons still remembered to follow-up with me in a timely fashion and were flexible with us during my wife's pregnancy. Ultimately the fan went up with minimal damage and maximum efficiency. And our home was spot once they were done. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Definitely a class act organization.

I went through 2 weeks of calling electricians for a pre-weatherization check of my attic. Many never bothered to call back. Some dragged me along for days. My experience with Gibbons was stellar. I left a request on their web site. They called me back the next day. We scheduled the appointment for the week after with a 3 hour time window. On the day of the appointment, they called me a couple of hours ahead of the appointment to let me know when they were expecting to arrive.
They arrived on time, were very professional and spent the time to explain what they were doing. Great experience. I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because they had to take some papers back to their office for signing and didn't have any way to give me an invoice or receipt on the same day. I would have preferred completing the whole transaction then and there, rather than having to wait for the invoice via snail mail. Feels a bit like last century. Still would recommend them without hesitation.

I was very impressed by the company initially. They gave me a quote based on my inspection report of a condo unit for electrical panel upgrade. And the person who gave me the quote seems to be very knowledgable. I was very happy with their quote and overall response. I made an appointment in two weeks advance for the work to be done after the condo was closed. However, few days before the appointment, I got a phone call from them indicating the appointment was canceled and needs to be rescheduled to four weeks later.
I had made all arrangement based on initial appointment! Not only I have lost time but my trust to their commitment. I was very disappointed and decided to find somebody else.

It's hard not to be a fan of these guys. Hard-working, prompt/on-time, and very fair estimates/pricing. Electricians Mike and Adam installed an outdoor motion-sensor security light for us.everything was kosher except the range of motion, which was spotty since this particular security light only picked up motion within 35 feet, and we have a very long driveway.
No problem though - my wife and I picked up a Defiant 180 degree Outdoor LED Blade Motion Security Light at the Home Depot (best reviewed security light at the store) and 1 day later Steven came by and re-installed the security light. Steven kept me posted on timing, installation, testing of the range, instructions, etc. Total damages: $140 for the 1 hour service, and full refund for the security light that was provided by Gibbons Electric. No extra follow up charges or hidden fees.these folks stand by their work. My wife and I will definitely call upon Gibbons Electric again.

Forget the other guys. I called all the high rated electricians on yelp in the Cambridge/Somerville area and they all gave me the runaround: 'booked for weeks, first have to do an estimate then come back, yada yada.' maybe my job to run a coax cable from the exterior to the inside was too out of the ordinary and too small. Finally called Gibbons and they were exactly what I was looking for: They would come and do the estimate and if I agreed on the price, they would do the work then and there.
They showed up within days, the price was right (not the cheapest, but with contractors sometimes the lowest bid is not the best). They started the work on the spot, cleaned up immaculately, and were gone. Other electricians should learn from their efficient business model: why waste time for all parties by first doing an estimate then have to come back? Just show up and get it done!

First electric company that actually calls you to remind you of the appointment, not just once(a week before), not just twice(a day before), but three times (in the morning the day of). Wow, even our dentists whom I thought called with reminders twice was a lot. There is always people above your expectations. The electrician the company sent to our home was real nice, he was from Belarus.
So from his accent, my husband guessed he was Polish and I guessed he was Russian, and guess what, he was in between those 2 countries lol Anyways! He was very polite, wore booties to not make our floors dirty. Played with our cats and said he loved cats and had many back in Belarus. OK, imo, if you love cats, you are OK with me! He showed up on time, was working very efficiently the whole time, answered all of my questions. Lasted for 2 hours, from crack of dawn, 7AM. The rate is $140/hour as other yelpers pointed out. I will use them again as long as they send the same guy. Or if the other guys are as nice as he is.

I hired these guys to change the placement of the ridiculous-looking, out-of-place light fixture in my new condo to the middle of the room.(A few feet down from the door and a 4-5 feet over.) I also had them install a chandelier instead of the previously mentioned ridiculous light fixture. :) Their rate is $140/hr+parts. 2 men came. They put a huge sheet on the floor to protect my carpets etc.
They took the old light fixture down. Secured the lose wires and put a cover over the hole. Made 3 new holes in the ceiling. Pulled a wire from the old fixture site to the new location. Installed the new chandelier. Patched the holes they made on my ceiling. (No visible signs of the holes they made.) They also swept the debris and got rid of the old light fixture for me. It took them 1.5 hrs to do this job. The pricing is not better or worse than any of the other area electricians. They do a good job. I will definitely hire them again.

Best experience I've ever had with an electrician. Their quoted rate was a tiny bit higher than some of the other guys, but I had such horrible experiences with electricians in the past I was no longer shopping on price alone- nor should you. Alex was the electrician who came to relocate an electrical switch. He had a level of professionalism and courtesy you don't normally see in this profession.
He protected the surrounding area, did the job quickly (and well), cleaned up the area, and even offered to patch a hole in the wall nearby that was unrelated to the job he came over for.

Underwhelmed by my experience with Gibbons. I had them come in to do a whole-house evaluation of existing knob-and-tube wiring. Two junior guys spent 3.5 hours on it and it cost me $350. I was told I'd get detailed wiring diagrams, but it turned out I could have produced 80% of what they did based on my prior knowledge. Because they had to remove every light fixture, switch plate, etc., the house was dotted with little plaster dust piles and the walls were marked up in many places by the time they left.
The cherry on top was how my house got strangely cold after they left -- which I soon traced to the fact that they had turned off the shutoff switch to my boiler and never turned it back on again. In the end the $10k quote for rewiring was 1.5X what they said up front it would "probably" be. I'm no electrician, but this doesn't seem like a difficult job.
Two floors + a basement; 1/3 of the upstairs has already been rewired. Maybe I'm missing something. After 2 months I've heard no follow-up to see if I wanted the job done. Maybe they were happier just doing the inspection.

I'd used Gibbons before a few years ago and they were great. Totally professional, on time, courteous and the work done was perfect (ceiling fan put in, outlets replaced). This time I had to get a fuse box replaced and unfortunately a surge killed my alarm clock, toaster oven and microwave. along with a few outlets. At first I was worried they weren't going to fix it, as electrician wasn't very sympathetic.
But Stephen was awesome. Totally professional. Came back super quickly, early in the morning so I didn't have to miss work. Fixed the outlets on the spot and offered to compensate me for everything and replaced and reinstalled the microwave. I'm not too handy, so I was really worried I was going to have to figure that out, but nope, they took care of it. They're coming by today with the check to compensate the cost of the new clock and toaster oven and to replace the microwave. They're good people.
