Electricbob.Com We have closed B&H Electric in Orange Park and I am now semi-retired, working from home in Palatka, Florida. There I will continue to serve the Electrical Rebuilder's Association as editor of their trade newspaper - The Exchange and answer the ERA's Technical Help Line. I also have Model A alternators in stock that can be purchased directly from this website.

Your alternator is the primary part of your car's or truck's charging system, which includes the battery, alternator and associated wiring and controls. Those controls may include a voltage regulator, separate from the alternator, or on many newer vehicles, an on-board computer. The alternator's job is to generate electrical current to replace what was used from the battery to start the vehicle, and to run all of the electrical accessories that are in use as you drive. That includes lights, A/C fan, radiator fan, electric seats, windows, radio and whatever other gadgets you have.
Your starter is the primary part of your car or truck's starting system, which includes the battery, starter, cables, switches (ignition, clutch or neutral-start), relay or solenoid, alarm system (if you have one), and all of the wiring in between. This can be a complicated system on some vehicles.
ELECTRICITY is defined as the flow of electrons through a conductor. Those electrons are small parts of atoms and a conductor is anything that permits this transfer. Most metals are good conductors. DC or direct current, the type used in your car or truck, is where those electrons flow in only one direction, like a one-way street.
