Services
By combining a respect for tradition and ingenuity, Roberts Electric Co. delivers powerful solutions to our customers. Because of RECO's enduring reputation for quality and service, others in the industry, such as All Electric and Broadmoor Electric, have approached RECO when retiring their companies and chosen us to take care of their clientele.
Our standard service area is Alameda County, Contra Costa County, and San Francisco County. We also work in extended service areas, such as Marin, Sonoma, Solano, and Sacramento counties. Please provide some details about your project if it is outside our standard service area, and we will make every effort to meet your service needs.
Roberts Manufacturing opened for business in 1895 as a company that specialized in crafting what was the prevalent lighting of the times-custom gas light fixtures. One customer found some of these fixtures in an old home and wondered if they had any historical significance for us-and they do. These beautiful fixtures were all produced by Roberts Manufacturing in the early 1900s.
When you join the Roberts Electric team, you become an integral part of our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and safety. As a Roberts Electric Co. employee, you will represent a proud tradition of excellence established over more than 80 years. I have used RECO for business and personal projects for many years. The most recent project was building out our basement for an in-law unit with a kitchen. We have an older home and they were great with all the issues with old electrical equipment. The work easily passed building inspection and we continue to be very happy with the work.

Robert's Electric & Team came to the rescue! We had a situation take place after the recent storm; however, Amanda (Office Personnel) & Joe (Electrician) made this difficult situation 100% better. Amanda was extremely responsive during booking and Joe came out to assist. Joe was professional and understanding of our situation. He took the time to explain everything and put us at ease. After, both Joe & Amanda went above and beyond to ensure we were up and running. Communication, follow up, and overall customer service was unmatched. Thank you again!

I needed three electrical outlets installed and had a tough time getting bids in COVID times. The first I got from another reputable business was a crazy-high flat-rate per outlet price (this isn't my first rodeo), and a couple others were booked for months or had other issues while Roberts Electric was ready to provide what I needed, priced on a time and material basis which is exactly what I wanted.
The electrician arrived on time and did excellent work: one super easy outlet, one medium hard and one that was a pretty complicated job requiring multiple holes to be cut in the wall. In the end, his time and materials was less than half what the expensive company quoted and having observed the work, it was very fair. The only place to improve is that the company doesn't manage their email well.
I first submitted a request through their website and about two weeks later I get an email, "Do you still want to do this?" I immediately replied yes and never got a second response. I called them the next day and got everything quickly set up, so my advice is simply to pick up the phone when using RECO.

I've worked with Roberts many times, starting in 2003. They are not cheap but they do good work--as others here have written. But they are s-l-o-w at submitting their estimates. The last time I asked them for a quote, they came out quickly to see the job then promised an estimate in a few days. I continued to call for a few WEEKS. At one point the estimator even assured me that they wanted the job. But I never did hear from them.

Just an all around horrible experience with RECO. They send different guys on location every other day, so you have to spend half a day walking them through everything and bringing them up to speed all the while they are billing you for this and you are losing your time. Then they double bill, don't complete the work, don't clean up after themselves (spools of wire and trash left under our building), etc.
I am a firm believer in bringing issues to people attention so they can fix it. I even contacted the owner. Martin came by and saw that many items weren't completed and then he disappeared. After 6 months of back and forth and no work on their part, I hired an other electrician. He fixed and completed their shooty work. Of course RECO is still trying to bill for work not completed nor done correctly. Just outrageous. I would never recommend using these guys.

Martin is working for another company but still accepts jobs. I had an installation of new hallway lights than needed to be done. Old fixtures and plates were no longer working and I had no illumination in the hallway since May. It was not high priority since it's been light outside, but heading into winter I really needed to find the time to get this done.
I called Martin and told him about the job. He quoted me $175 for the installation of both the hall lights barring any unforeseen electrical issues. I had had the house re-wired when we moved in 6 years ago, but with all the bulbs popping it was a possibility. I ordered the lights I had been looking at and inspected them upon arrival. Then I texted Martin they were in.
After a few texts he got back to me with an opening the next morning. He arrived promptly and within 1.5 hours I had new hall lights which work and look great. Martin was wonderful cleaning up all the plaster debris and general mess that comes with installations. The total bill was less then the quote. Great job and I will be keeping him contact information for any further jobs. Thank you Martin

I needed an upgrade to my remote control ceiling fan. The Modern Fan Company said I need a new transmitter and remote, which they FedEs's to me. I called Roberts and the y set me up with Jeremiah. He arrived on time, had is little booties on to ensure my floors would be clean. He immediately assessed the situation and got to work. He let me know what he was doing and within 45 minutes he was done!
He then asked for some microfiber clothes to clean the fan blades and he also cleaned a nearby sprinkler head! Jeremiah was professional and really proud of his work! I strongly recommend Roberts Electric and Jeremiah in particular. Finding a good electrician or any other service pro is tough - I found a great one!

I needed an electrician to help us replace a hot tub in our yard. The electrician that came out was nice and helpful. He told us everything looked good and that he would just need to reach out to his supervisors to get the estimate. He said he would send an email as soon as he left. After a couple days went by, I called to follow up, they said they would get back to me tomorrow.
I called late the next day, told me they would reach out and get back to me tomorrow. This went on for 10 days. It was not a complicated job, they just needed to upgrade a breaker. I even followed up with the electrician (we had exchanged texts previously about the property) to see if he had an update or knew what was going on, he never responded.
We paid over $250 for them to come out and do the initial assessment, which we pretty much had to re-pay to another electrician (who came out and did everything in one day). They also wasted our time. They finally called me and said they wouldn't be able to do the job because they couldn't get in contact with the supervisor to get the estimate - which is ridiculous. I get a couple days but 10 days? How do you run a business like that?

Jeremiah at Roberts priced a job for me (running a dedicated line to the driveway to charge a plug-in hybrid), estimating he could do it in two to four hours. He did it in three. Works perfectly. The EV circuit is unobtrusive, the work looks classy, and charging is a breeze. 10% senior discount. These guys get my business in the future.

One of my "go to" vendors. Always friendly service from both the office staff and the electricians who come on site. Very professional and very thorough. They never cut corners and do everything up to code and they work both efficiently and neatly. They recently put up some new overhead lights for me, added a dimmer switch and some new electric outlets. I couldn't be happier. Great work!

Unfortunately I can not recommend Roberts Electric. We hired them to look at our entire electrical system and make recommendations for safety and upgrades. They created a list and a bid of items that needed to be completed. The electrician came and went on several non consecutive days over a few weeks, turned the electricity off for an entire day for no reason and completed work that was not necessary.
I was billed for the unnecessary work as well as several items that were not completed. I asked repeatedly for someone to come out to the house and do a check off for everything they said was completed but the company refused. Their stance was they did the work and I needed to pay and that was that. This despite several items on the list clearly not being present. I will now need to hire another electrician to check their work and complete the items on the list.

The appraiser who shall remain anonymous complain the whole time he was here to give me an estimate. I waited a week for the estimate and none came. So I called Roberts electronics and the woman who answered said she would get back to the estimator and tell him that I had called for feedback and he would send out the estimate. Another week goes by no estimate. My advice don't waste your time call someone else

Their workers they having driving their trucks are very dangerous drivers. One if them almost took me out in my small car today not following the rules of the road. Big work trucks are dangerous and deadly. Please boycott this company if you are thinking of using them. They do not employ safe drivers and I can only guess what sort of lack of care that driver puts in their work too.

While the electrician who came to my house seemed knowledgeable, their customer service is lacking. I had asked them to come do an inspection of my old knob and tube. I was offered the option of just the inspection and no formal report, or for a higher fee, a report. I needed the report so asked for that. The electrician left me with a hand written invoice that said "conducted attic knob and tube wiring inspection.
No discrepancies noted." I waited for my actual report and after calling at least twice to get it, what i got was a typed up invoice saying the same thing as the hand written invoice. After following up several times, I was told a more detailed report would be coming. I have yet to receive it. Then, i also asked for a bid on installing an outside light fixture.
When I got the bid, it included a fee for the work plus a $795 charge for a permit--if I should choose to get one. I called the city and found the permit would cost less than $150. Robert's told me that the fee included an electrician being on site during the inspection. That leaves them about $645 worth of hourly billing to be on site for an inspection. While I am all for paying them for their time, that seems highly excessive. Needless to say I will not be using them for the job.

I've had two great experiences with Robert's Electric Co. (RECO). They have helped me with everything from the electrical panel, appliance outlets, GFIs, car charger, fixtures. Jeremiah is especially skilled and knowledgeable. They are also reasonably priced and after the first hour charge by the 1/4 hour. Great reliable company.

Update! A tree fell on one of our arena lights this summer, completely destroying it and bending the light post. Dan came out immediately, we discussed options and I received quotes to replace the broken light fixture or to replace them all with LED fixtures. Once I made up my mind, the fixtures were up and all is well in the horse arena again! Thanks Roberts Electric for taking such great care of us! :

I had some major damage to my bathroom fan (fire), and needed electrical repair. The damage was extensive enough it needed to be seen, and parts needed to be ordered ahead of time. Roberts was recommended to me by my building's management company. They seemed okay on the phone, and said they would discuss my job with their electrician and call back.
They never called back so I assumed that was the end of it, as many contractors are flakey. Then, several weeks later, I got a call from a random guy who said he's here to do electrical work. I told him I had no knowledge of any appointment, as I'd already had the work done. Today, a month and a half later, I got a bill for $125, referencing an "order" number that never existed in the first place! The bill said it was in the 32-61 days overdue, and this is the first I even heard of this. Total scam. Check out my other reviews to see a much more reliable contractor.

I recently had them install a light on the outside of the garage and fix an older fluorescent bulb light fixture. At first I was very nervous about selecting them to do this job. The first guy who arrived was not up to the task. He was physically impaired and unable to do the job. I believe I clearly described the job when I set the appoint so I was very disappointed to be told after his arrival that he could do the job.
They quickly rescheduled the next appointment, but I received a call prior to their appointed time that the electrician would not be able to come. From my perspective, I was getting even more nervous about choosing them to handle the job. Finally on the third try, they arrived on time and the electrician completed all tasks required. As others have mentioned, they're not cheap, but from my point of view, I don't want a cheap electrician I want a good, safe, knows their stuff kind of electrician. I'm very satisfied with the outcome even if it was a rocky start.

A neighbor recommended them to me. We where in a series pinch. A family emergency at the time made me call them at 8:30 am. The lady that answered the phone was very nice after I explained the situation. The guy came by by about11am. And it didn't take too long to finish everything. I needed them to check the grounds in the living room a to make sure it could handle the equipment we where bringing in, and to install two CFGI outlets in the kitchen.
Well luckily the living room was properly grounded but he replaced two outlets anyway and installed one CFGI outlet in the kitchen and put a CFGI safe sticker on the other kitchen outlet. I also like them because they are union and licenced and insured. And the price was reasonable for them to come to my house and do a proper job. I will definitly call them for future work if needed

They're not cheap, but they're good, they're in Oakland, and they're reputable. These things make them my choice for electrical contractors. Not the not-cheap part, but that's why only 4 stars. Then again, Sparky always costs money. They've done interior work for me - installing two ceiling fixtures where old gas ones would have been - and exterior motion lighting. They've done the wiring for the inside of my garage so I could be legal with the City of Oakland and not have the questionable extension cord that the previous tenants put out there.
They wired the garage for a garage door opener. Solid work. Again, not cheap, and like all contractors you have to follow up to keep the ball rolling sometimes, but they give an estimate and stick to it, take a deposit then you pay when it's inspected and the work is done. All on the up-and-up. They did accidentally drill through the ceiling into the second floor when doing those ceiling fixtures, but paid for a good flooring company to come out and repair it, not Fly By Night Floors.
